A Remarkable Y10 Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition in the Stunning Peak District

The stunning landscapes of the Peak District near Buxton and Bakewell became the backdrop for an extraordinary adventure as four groups of Y10 students embarked on their Silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition. Bathed in the warm rays of May, the expedition promised to be a memorable journey filled with challenges and breathtaking scenery.

Day 1: Conquering the Heights of Flash

With an early start, the groups commenced their expedition from Flash, the highest village in Britain. The intricate network of footpaths presented a formidable challenge, but the descending route provided a welcome relief. Most groups skillfully arrived at their designated campsite, granting them ample time to enjoy a nourishing meal and engage in some lighthearted frisbee games. However, there was one group that seemed captivated by the beauty of their surroundings, eventually arriving fashionably late after 8pm.

Day 2: Following Railway Tracks and Embracing Nature

Undeterred by a gentle drizzle, the determined participants set off on day two, tracing the path of disused railway tracks. Their unwavering spirit prevailed, and the intermittent rain failed to dampen their enthusiasm. As the clouds parted, the sun cast its warm glow, welcoming the groups to a picturesque second campsite. The students marveled at the sight of adorable new-born lambs, while the ever-watchful cows added a touch of curiosity to the serene landscape. Meanwhile, the diligent staff members indulged in preparing mouthwatering venison kebabs on the sizzling BBQ, delighting in the opportunity to enhance the culinary experience.

Final Day: Navigating Towards Home

With thoughts of "normal" food, playfully alluding to a certain fast-food chain, lingering in their minds, the participants embarked on the final day of their expedition. Their navigation skills, now finely honed, propelled them forward with determination. Briskly making their way, they arrived back in good time, savoring the feeling of accomplishment. A relaxing Sunday awaited, serving as a well-deserved respite after their triumphant journey.

In Summary, Mr Doughty reflects, "Another very successful expedition and looking forward to getting the Y9 students on their first expedition in June."
